3PA's unit is entitled Literary Journeys. We will use an inquiry-based approach to investigate literature during first and second quarters. The guiding theme of this unit is the recognition of change as a concept that affects people and their relationships with the world around them. This week we will explore examples of things around us that change or never change. We will also explore what it means to form generalizations and that generalizations exist about change. Some of the texts we will explore this quarter include, The Green Book by Jill Paton Walsh, "The Ugly Duckling", and selections of Aesop's fables. |
4PA's year long literature study is entitled Literary Reflections. The core of this unit involves students interacting with literature while enhancing reading comprehension and textual analysis skills. A key idea that guides our learning this quarter is: "Life is a journey where relationships and conflict with others cause us to grow as human beings." Some of the texts that will be explored in 4PA include, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, short stories and poetry from Tolstoy and Bruchac, as well as a Japanese Folktale entitled "The Old Man & his Affectionate Son". |
Literary Connections, 5PA's year-long study of literature, examines the integration of two key concepts explored in Project Arrow: Change and Systems. Students will discover that the choices and consequences of choices that people make, have an impact on life and the success of individuals. 5PA students will explore ways characters in literary pieces, individuals in real-world situations, as well as themselves, interact within systems and are catalysts for change. This quarter, students will explore texts such as: "The Hemulen who Loved Silence", All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury, and a variety of informational pieces to enhance our understanding of literary pieces. This week students will explore the concept of Systems and will be introduced to an exciting research opportunity that will span our four quarters of learning! |
