3PA student recently began exploring a science fiction text by Jill Paton Walsh entitled The Green Book. The text follows Pattie and her family who are among the last refugees to flee a dying Earth in an old spaceship. When the group finally lands on the distant planet which is to be their new home, it seems that the four-year journey has been a success. But as they begin to settle this shiny new world, they discover that the colony is in serious jeopardy. Nothing on this planet is edible, and they may not be able to grow food. With supplies dwindling, Pattie and her sister decide to take the one chance that might make life possible on Shine. (courtesy of Amazon.com) |
As 3PA students explore Planet Shine, they are noting evidence of environmental changes and changes within the voyagers that influence their survival on the new planet. Students are enjoying the opportunity to document their observations in an electronic travel journal using Google Slides on iPads. 3PA students can log-in to their school Google account and you can explore along with us! Click here to view. (Students - be sure to include @k12.ipsd.org at the end of your username and click "shared with me" to view.) Students are collecting their observations for "National Geographic" as they will be creating an article to report their observations and findings from their visit on Planet Shine. | |
We're looking forward to continuing our exploration this week. Up until now, the voyagers have not found any signs of any animal or human life on the planet. The students don't know this quite yet, but they will be introduced later this week to a very strange creature that lives on Planet Shine!
